• Music legend Ike Turner has died at the age of 76.
THE SPIN:
Pull your pimp hand back and pay your respect, Ike Turner has passed on. The noted music legend, most notably from the Ike and Tina Turner Revue, died in his sleep, a rep confirms to TMZ. Though he’s became more so known as Tina Turner’s abusive ex- husband, Ike Turner is a celebrated musician, one of the leading pioneers in the early stages of rock ‘n roll. Naturally, news of Ike’s death prompted speculation on what his famous ex-wife has to say about his death. Tina Turner’s rep issued a statement to TMZ: "Tina is aware that Ike passed away earlier today. She has not had any contact with him in 35 years. No further comment will be made."
Ouch. Don’t expect Tina to perform “Proud Mary” at the wake.
In all seriousness, for all his faults, he paved the way for many Black artists, and essentially created rock ‘n roll. May he rest in peace.
