TODAY (MAR. 06): Mos Def on Obama Phenomenon: It’s His Looks
THE FACTS:
• Mos Def says Barack Obama’s success points to American’s vanity.
THE SPIN:
Mos Def shared his theory about America’s giddiness with presidential hopeful Barack Obama. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the emcee and actor said much of his success can be attributed to America’s sense of vanity. He said: “It’s the A & R guy in me . . . when I saw him on the cover of Men’s Vogue, I said, 'This guy’s gonna win because he looks good.’ So, the best-looking guy for the job is a Black guy. I’m cool with that. People also want a rock-star quality to the president, which he has.”
So why doesn’t Mos sell? Kidding, kidding. I liked “Black on Both Sides.” So what do you think? Is Barack’s main asset his good genes or his good rhetoric?
