TODAY (NOV. 14): Beyonce Billboard Spurs Controversy
THE FACTS:
• Some Reno, Nev. area residents are upset over a billboard featuring a bikini-clad Beyonce.
THE SPIN:
After all these years there are still some people that aren’t ready for Beyonce’s jelly. Reno, Nev. residents are upset at Clear Channel for putting up a billboard that features the image of Beyonce in a bikini.
Some residents are mad that the billboard blocks the view of West Reno, Nev.’s mountain area, while others consider the image of Beyonce in a bikini obscene. "It just screams of degradation, it screams of ghettoizing a good neighborhood," said Ward Ryan to the Reno Gazette-Journal.
“Ghettoizing a good neighborhood?” What do bikinis have to do with the ghetto? If that’s the case, does Baywatch carry the same amount of street cred as The Wire? Something tells me Mr. Ryan hasn’t seen too many people of color outside of his remote control, given he’s equating an image of a Black woman (with blond hair, no less) with the ghetto.
Just for that, I say leave the billboard up as is. In fact, I say put up a memorial billboard of O.D.B. right in front of his home.
