THE FACTS:
• Michael Jackson has commented on his reputation as an eccentric in a new interview with Ebony magazine.
THE SPIN:
When you make the news for searching for the remains of Elephant Man, befriending monkeys and the kid from Home Alone, and switching from an afro pick to a lace-front wig, people are going to eventually begin to view you in a certain light and toss around labels.
So what does Michael Jackson make of his label as a freak? He told Ebony magazine, "I don't pay attention to that." If I were him, I’d try to not think about it either.
But, then the King of Pop got a little beside himself, adding: "In my opinion, it's ignorance. It's usually not based on fact... Every neighborhood has the guy who you don't see, so you gossip about him. You see those stories about him, there's the myth that he did this or he did that. People are crazy!"
Michael Jackson is calling someone else crazy? I seem to have developed quite the conundrum for myself here. Should I respect his genius and the fact that he’s my namesake and forgo poking wholes through his analogy, or do I order a pot and kettle and have it shipped over to the Neverland Ranch?
