• Halle Berry has angered some diabetics over her claims that she weaned herself off insulin and is not in the Type 1 diabetes category anymore.
THE SPIN:
Halle has done it again. She has managed to anger a new faction of the population. This time, diabetics are raging over Halle’s claim that she cured herself of Type 1 diabetes Contactmusic.com quotes Halle as saying, "I've managed to wean myself off insulin, so now I'd like to put myself in the Type 2 category." That statement has led to a number of people assailing the pregnant beauty on the blogsophere.
Dr. Francine Kaufman, a diabetes expert at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles told ABC News.com, "When someone really has Type 1, it means their immune system has destroyed the insulin producing part of [the] pancreas. In that case, there is no way to wean yourself off insulin treatments.”
People are mad over this? If there’s any lesson to be learned here it’s that you shouldn’t pay much attention to what Halle Berry says, at least not while she’s pregnant because that’s when the verbal snafus started. Treat her like that one relative you have who never knows what they’re talking about, yet they love hearing themselves speak: simply smile and nod.
