TODAY (NOV. 09): Prince vs. Fans

THE FACTS:
• The Webmasters of the three largest online Prince fan sites have joined together to form “Prince Fans United” in an effort to counter legal action taken upon them by Prince.

THE SPIN:
If you have a picture of your Prince tattoo on MySpace, then you might want to think about taking it down. Three of Prince’s largest online fan sites - Housequake.com, Princefams.com, and Prince.org – have joined together to form Prince Fans United after Prince reportedly issued cease and desist letters to each Webmaster demanding that his image and any likeness be removed from their respective sites.

Seen on Princefansunited.com, the order calls for the removal of fan's personal photographs of their Prince inspired tattoos and their vehicles displaying Prince inspired license plates.

They also claim Prince's representatives have requested that the fan sites provide them with "substantive details of the means by which you [the fan sites] propose to compensate our clients [Paisley Park Enterprises, NPG Records and Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG)] for damages."

The Webmasters claim they are fans, and that Prince’s actions violate free speech, considering not every image found on their sites are copyrighted by Prince.

Call it a hunch, but I’m guessing they’re not planning to purchase the next Prince album.
