TODAY (OCT. 23): Halle Apologizes Over Joke
THE FACTS:
• Halle Berry has apologized for making a joke that offended some members of the Jewish community during a taped appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
THE SPIN:
Halle Berry has joined Mel Gibson, Ann Coulter, Michael Jackson, among others over a verbal faux pas that spurred anti-Semitic accusations. While promoting her new film, Things We Lost In The Fire, Halle showed Leno and his audience a distorted image of herself she made on the Mac program, Photo Booth.
She introduced a photo of herself with a huge, distorted nose by saying, “Here's where I look like my Jewish cousin!“
Not looking to get blacklisted, Halle called the New York Posts’ Page Six to plead her case. She told the paper that the joke actually stemmed from one of her assistants, who is Jewish herself. She told the paper it was supposed to be a silly segment and it meant no harm. Halle even offered to apologize in person. The paper said she sounded as if she were near tears.
She said she was sorry so everyone should leave her be. I don’t like the idea of pregnant women crying. It just seems wrong.
