THE FACTS:
• Gabrielle Union’s series, Football Wives, has been picked up for the 2008-2009 television season.
THE SPIN:
Last year, actress Gabrielle Union signed a six-figure deal with ABC and Touchstone Pictures to develop shows for the network. Upon hearing the news, I waited. And waited. And waited some more. Though I did see her in Daddy’s Little Girls, I was beginning to think I was only going to see her star on the red carpet…of someone else’s premiere. But, I suppose that’s what I get for not having enough hope.
It looks like Gabby finally has a regular job, ya’ll! After initially not being picked up for the 2007 fall season, the show Football Wives, an American spin-off of an already popular British series (which seems to be the thing to do these days), Wives has IS on for the 2008-2009 season.
The drama will chronicle the fictional football team, the Orlando Stingrays, and the lives of the players and their wives. I know: that sounds just like a show already on-air, but hush and be happy Gabby’s found a steady gig.
Coming along for the ride is Holly Robinson Peete, Brian White and Ving Rhames. Holly! That’s two people I’m happy about finding jobs. Gabrielle will play a pop singer with a nasty attitude who sets her sights on Brian White’s character, grating on his mother’s (Holly) nerves in the process. Gabrielle is playing another character with a bad attitude? I guess if it isn’t broke, don’t complain about it being typecast.
