TODAY (Oct. 8): Diddy Gets Sued
THE FACTS:
• James Sabitino, a former associate of Sean “Diddy” Combs, has filed a lawsuit from prison against Combs, claiming he is owed $19 million for music by the late rapper Notorious B.I.G.
THE SPIN:
Who sues for $19 million while in prison? James Sabatino, that’s who. Sabatino says Diddy promised him $200,000 for music and video of the late Notorious B.I.G. but was only paid $25,000, though he said he was assured by Diddy that he would get the rest in 60 days. That day never came, resulting in Sabatino’s request for millions of dollars in both and actual and punitive damages.
$18,800,000 is a lot in punitive damages. He must be really devastated.
So why didn’t Diddy pay the rest? On the night of Biggie’s murder, Sabatino and the late rapper were scheduled to meet, though Sabatino never showed. He was then named a person of interest in Biggie’s murder. Diddy held off paying over worries that the public might misconstrue an inaccurate connection between the two.
Whew! That sounds like an old episode of New York Undercover. It’s too complicated. All I want to know is in what parallel universe does he think he’s going to get $19 million from Diddy and even if he were to get it, exactly what is he going to do with it in prison? Buy extra packs of Newports?
