Ashanti Speaks on Inc. Rift

Get into The Spin everyday as TV One Online’s blogger, Michael Arceneaux brings you daily doses of celeb gossip and news.

THE FACTS:

• Ashanti has spoken on her rumored rift with her label boss and his claims that she’s disloyal.

Irv Gotti has gone on record saying Ashanti feels as though she’s outgrown The Inc. He’s also made it clear recently he felt Ashanti was disloyal for never appearing at his trial – and there’s nothing more important to a record executive enamored with mafia folklore than loyalty. If it was important to the Corleone family, the you know it’s important to Irv.

Though she’s distanced herself from Irv Gotti he is still her boss, so it’s best to place the perfect politically correct spin out in the media to smooth things over – and that is just what Ashanti did in her cover story with King magazine.

On her rift with the Inc., Ashanti told King magazine: “Uh, how do I address this? I feel like, creatively, I wanted to try some new stuff, just to see, because there was a lot of stuff going on. Now, I wasn’t on trial, so obviously Irv’s focus and my focus were a little bit different.”

That’s her polite way of saying it’s been a couple of years since she’s had a hit, and if she’s going to remain relevant, she’s going to have to find new ways to spin the word baby into some more hits songs. With Irv fighting off jail time, she saw a chance to branch out and she took it.

As for not appearing at the trial everyday, Ashanti noted she was filming a movie and added that people underestimate the word business. “Loving someone and being creative and passionate, that’s all easy. It’s hard when it turns into business,” she told King. To me, that reads as “I gotta eat to me.”

Make it plain for us, Ashanti. I completely understand your dilemma. It’s 2007 and you’re now known as Nelly’s girlfriend. You’re just trying not to end up on Dancing With The Stars too early. I’m not mad at you.
