What is The Family's Role in Education?-
The mission of HBCU kidz is to promote the HBCU Spirit. This spirit lives in each one of our famillies. It is a driving force from the past to remember that over 100 years ago W.E.B. Du Bois said " Education must not simply teach work—it must teach Life. The Talented Tenth of the Negro race must be made leaders of thought and missionaries of culture among their people. No others can do this and Negro colleges must train men for it. The Negro race, like all other races, is going to be saved by its exceptional men." Well where are these exceptional men going to come from to enter the college classroom if they are not being born to do so? As famillies we must reach beyond our immediate loved ones and reach across the family tree. Each one of us much reach one to promote the fact that EDUCATION is important. There are blatant ways to do this and there are subtle ways this can be accomplished. The subtle way that we propose is by wearing EDUCATIONAL FAMILY UNITY GEAR. Let the children in your family see the names of colleges routinely. Give them gifts such as t-shirts, books, pennants and memorabilia that will inspire them to learn more, to set goals and to see a brighter future for themselves. These gifts are especially important to give our boys. Don't wait until it is too late and they fall victim to peer pressure to conform to "thug life". We are living in an age where we need to look out for one another-family to family. www.HBCUkidz.com is simply a tool we can all add to our toolbox.
I guess I agree with that but a a forrmer student of a HBCU we got a lot of work to do...I'm pro education and family education 1st but these dilemmas at HBCU's need work ASAP.....black people work ethic need a serious make over....this stuff don't happen at Penn State or Temple University....Pro black college and strong black families just make you choice wise when choosing a black college.....My experience was great lots of love but the administative aspect of HBCU's can make or break you if you don't have the patience.....
