Hampton FINANCIAL AID Struggles

Keisha Ralliford · Monday, May 9th 2005 at 9:46AM · 332 views
Okay, Im an incoming freshman and though I never looked at 'price' when picking my college, I'm sort of discouraged by HU's financial aid award. I only got 1,400 in grants, a $2,000+ student loan, and a $20,000+ PLUS loan (for Parents). Thats ridiculous, especially since Barry (also private) offerred me a lot more in grants than HU did. For those current Hampton students and/or Hampton graduates: what do you do when your financial aid award looks ridiculous? What are some other options? I've been looking into the navy reserve, because I'm not trying to be $100,000+ in debt when I graduate from Hampton!

im in the same situation too.. besides applying for outside scholarships left and right.. i called the financial aid department and all they said was that if i keep my grades up i can get more scholarship $..im not sure how much more but anything will help. so if u look at it like taking out loans for freshman year and then busting ur butt to get like a 4.0 (yea right..lol).. u may not need to take out a lot in loans. u know? but i definately feel your pain girl im right there with you.

Your FA looks great compared to what they gave me. But once you graduate you should sign up on Fastweb.com, they hook you up with some pretty good scholarship applications.

hey girl, im in the same boat with you my award was crazy and i don't have extra doe sitting around and ain't feeling debt, but hey i guess when we graduate we will loook back on it and say i got my degree and a banging job so it was worth it...at least hopefully that's how it will go, but right now its discouraging especially sending out a million scholarship applications and getting nada as of out, but i guess we have to be independent souljahs now and start surviving!! but i guess we will be aight we'll be broke for a minute but it will work out in the end!
