How much is too much? Parent involvement in the lives of college students (745 hits)

All of the research points to the fact that parent involvement is critical to a child's success in school. I am wondering how many parents spend time helping their child prepare for college? How often do parents visit their child's college campus? Are they familiar with the program their child is enrolled in? Now to some, you might be saying "hey they are grown now" so parent involvement is a mute issue. But not really. I am in no way advocating a parent going down to the college and taking over. I am saying that going from high school to college is a huge transition. The world of a college life is a whole new beast. As a parent we just hope and pray that what we taught our children at home will some how and someway be used on the "yard". As my son prepares to head off to Prairie View A&M in the fall, you better believe I will be involved. I told him, if he cuts up, gets out of control "Mama is coming to PV". He laughs and says he's going to tell his friends " if you see a while car circling around, dang I am in trouble, that's my mama".
