My Ultimate Dream

Tameka Boone · Monday, May 23rd 2005 at 10:37PM · 415 views
Okay, I'm a Mass Communication major, and when I graduate I hope to break into the reporting world, but my passion is writing fiction stories. I know that getting a book published is like trying to get a record deal, but I want to believe that one day you guys are going to pick up one of my books and have a hard time putting it down. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get myself into the fiction world?

I'm not going to lie. You can write a bestseller and not get a deal. It's HARD to get published. Here's what I was told to do. Start an Internet reading club or something of the nature. Put your books online. This way people can read it for free, give you advice, and you can improve. Then, poll the site when you get enough recent visitors, and see if they will purchase your book.

If you get a yes, then you can do one of two things. You can pay a fee to a publisher who will print a certain number of copies, and you sell them out of stores or the trunk of your car. OR...you could start an online shop, print them yourself, and make the money. One site I noticed gets lots of referrals is CafePress.com

This is just something I was told and thought of. Use it if you like...
