What's the deal with PR, marketing and advertising

Joyce Brayboy · Friday, January 19th 2007 at 9:27PM · 358 views
I checked my possible job matches on the site today, and everything is marketing. I'm a PR type by undergrad and I'm wondering how this relationship between PR, marketing and advertising is evolving. Not just on the site, but in general the names and the positions are being used interchangably. It might be a good thing. Not sure yet. What are they teaching in school about the relationship? How do corporations handle it?

I learned everything from the real world not in school, so not sure if i'm qualified to answer, but I believe there is definitely a big difference between a marketing effort and a PR effort and that the 2 roles form an employment perspective would be different. Marketing should result (directly) in increased revenue whereas PR efforts might increase brand awareness but not necessarily tie directly to revenue.
