So we went skating, and my five year old daughter decided soft play wasn't as much fun as it looked like we were having in the rink, so after a few minutes of sitting on the sidelines, she decided she wanted to try to skate. This never works! She get's the skates on, and it took a good 10 frusterating minutes to realize she hadn't fell. DUH, NO WONDER SHE CANT SKATE. By this time, my 11-year-old, was coaching her. I'm waiting to see who's gonna fall first. She's still holding on for dear life, then the most amazing thing happened...
As she was scuffing to stay up I yelled, Hannah it's ok to fall! Any skaters, you know when it looks like you are running standing still and you may as well just FALL and get it over with. Yea, she was there. She looked at me like it was a revelation! Like, huh, I can fall? as she hit the ground HARD!!! Needless to say, before we left she was holding her own a little. Sure she spent half the time falling after she figured out that she could. But now that she knows "it's ok to fall" she will be rollerblading in no time!
So why should you care about my Saturday afternoon? BECAUSE WE ALL NEED TO REMEMBER "IT'S OK TO FALL" Get back up, with the faith of a little kid and try it again!
