HIP- HOP and the N Word by Kovon
Hip-Hop, we all love it and we all embrace it around the world for its many styles as well as for its creative energy. Hip-Hop has grown in so many ways through the years touching every aspect of life, race and culture. Hip-Hop has gone from the streets to the boardroom. People thought it was a fad, an M.C. rhyming over the cuts and scratches of a DJ putting it down with that boom bap beat, has proven to those who deny it, wrong.
I love Hip-Hop even today, but I have a problem with my fellow Rappers because it seems as though today's Rappers forgot their role as The People Pleaser, The Crowd Motivator. Today the Rapper chooses painful words to recite that are aimed at hurting someone or disrespecting our women, which I feel is nuts. Whether the Rapper wants to be a role model or not when they speak their fans listen. Unfortunately the fans are younger and the words spoken are fouler than ever. Parental Advisory Stickers aren't enough to protect the children from x-rated lyrics. There has to be some level of consciousness with the rapper. Rappers use cursing and the N word like no other words exist. I doubt if they would want their kids saying the N WORD. I know most people feel it's how you say the word, but at the end of the day, it's really whack. To constantly use the N word shortens your vocabulary as well as it offends those who are still in touch with the damage and degradation of the word. Once you understand the history it should be automatic to try and delete the N-word from your everyday vocabulary. If our ancestors could come back from the dead they would really be pissed off and shocked.
Rap is a creative forced used to communicate the culture of Hip-Hop. So Rappers
my plea to you is, since this is a creative energy BE CREATIVE. Try to do something different and don't give me that's whack to not use the N word to spit rhymes. If the record labels told you to stop using the N word or else you couldn't make a record you would have no choice but to find an alternative word!!
I still love Hip-Hop but I am so tired of hearing a song or verse that starts off by saying
YO YO YO YO I BUSS MY GUN AND I SMOKE HAZE I GOT TWENTIES ON MY RIMS WITH MY CHICK IN THE CAR MY N!@AS RIDING WITH ME AND MY N@AS KILL FOR ME YEA ALL MY N!@AS.
Now I know you just said what the hell was that!! That's not hot. My sentiment exactly. I know that my brothers and sisters are smarter and more creative than this. Southern cats are killing the rap game being creative all the time. Rapper T.I uses what up bud, hey handsome and he is selling records. So I know this can be done. We do not need to use the Nword in our music for it to sell. Why not make clean rap songs period? so that music can have that feel good feeling again. I hope rappers are hearing me. I hope the whole rap community is hearing me. This is more serious than you think. The stats on the Abolish the N word site states that the site is in 23 countries worldwide. People are supporting the movement to stop using the N word so be careful of misusing the power of words, one day you may find yourself 500,000 less in your next record sales.
