What Are We Teaching Our Children? (189 hits)

Recently I have been watching Oprah Winfrey. Now Oprah have excellent shows, but lately she has hit the nail on the head. Last week, she had women on the show who felt bad about their self-image. Now you may be thinking, okay this sounds like one of your typical Oprah shows, but there was a twist.....many of these women were either teaching their children to have low self-esteem, whether they were consciously doing it or unconsciously doing it or they were teaching their children to make fun of people, for example, this one woman and her daughter played a game in the car to identify "fat people". Why aren't we teaching our children that they are beautiful just the way they are? We have allowed the media and the outside world to define beauty when in essence, beauty comes from within. Many women, especially women are plauged with a negative self-image of themselves, because their mothers told them that they were too fat or that are not as pretty as most girls. Many girls are constantly are told that they are ugly and that they would never amount to anything and believe it or not those words follow these girls throughout their life. As you see, even women who are making money today are facing those demons and going through psychological changes just to become whole. There are power in words and parents should get a hold of that principle as they are speaking into the lives of their children. Uplift your little ones, tell your daughters that they are beautiful, smart enough and that they can do anything. Tell you sons that they are handsome, strong enough and they can do anything!! Raise the standards of parenthood and stop feeding your children negativity!

Be Blessed,

One Love,

You are absolutely right. If you don't tell them, the world definately won't! The negativity will come when they step out the door. I'm all for disipline, but our children need to walk out of the door knowing who they are and more so, who they are in God. It's our job to remind them that they are wonderfully and fearfully made. The mistakes, the flaws, and even the attitude are all temporary.

you are so right, you would think that we as a people would be changing right now to keep our kids strong and healthy and more importantly see them and help them to know that they are worthy of love and just as beautiful as the next person. When will we stop degrading our own children and tell them positive things instead of all this negative crap?
