Stand for Something! (201 hits)

I really like this site. I have been able to see others views and also the different stands that you have taken for what you believe. I commend so many of you on what you write about, even if I don't always agree. I have learned so much by just reading what you write. My father used to say to me when I was growing up, if you don't Stand for something you will Fall for anything. A lot of values in our community have been tainted but it is refreshing to know that there are people out their that have values and beliefs and who also Stand strong by what you believe. I remember a comment that I made to a blog a couple of weeks ago about the song 'It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp'....I remember some of the people agreed that many of the images passed down from the music industry did have an effect on our children in our community, but others just stamped it as entertainment. It is funny because a lot of people out there live the 'Hard Times' that many hip-hop and rap artist speak about in their lyrics and a lot of the children in our community(who do not have parents in the home to teach them that the pimp life isn't the right way to go or that exploiting yourselves to get paid isn't right) are being sucked into this. I believe that this is taking place because there has not been a stand taken. Now I know that we all have our individual stands that we take but I wonder, what are we standing for in our communities as a whole? Feed back please!

Hi Vicskeyas, You influence people to think and add personal insight about You.
That is a Gift akin to what Paul did. Paul used the statement "Thorn in the flesh", and talked about when wanting to do right did wrong, viceversa etc.

I commend You for what You do, it has been valuable Sis.

You seek knowledge, peace, solutions etc.
That takes so much boldness and courage.

Shame is a major problem for many who keep inside which poisons others.
Long paradigm to discuss but I believe the numerous good bright folk here understand where I am coming from.

You put Your heart out there Sis and sometimes comes back shredded like fishing with bait and the fish takes off the hook, but then the valued catch.... Jesus talked of fishers of men (Bible is neutral gender and women and children are included). As a matter of fact the 1st person Jesus appeared to was a woman, does anyone know who it was?

Keep up the great work Sis, my salute.
Sincerely
William

Hey Ms. Horne,

I am sorry I did not mean to strike a nerve. What you are doing is very good and I commend you! I was not speaking of those children who have someone in their life...there are so many who do not have a role model like you to be there for them. I did not state that this was a conclusion that you came up with on your own, believe me I grew up in the midst of the "Gangsta Rap" Era and my mother and I had plenty of disagreements about the music that I listened to, so believe me you are preaching to the choir. I dated this guy, who really believes the music and takes it to heart and I started seeing that his life was reflective of his beliefs. A lot times you hear young people quote lyrics from rap and hip-hop and even RnB songs and some....I am not saying all live by the words they speak. Now mind you I am not condemning entertainment, the point I am making is that parents and role models should do what you do, because there are some parents that do not and actually most of them glorify the lifestyle that is portrayed in the music industry. I feel you Ms. Horne, keep up the good work and thanks for your comment!

Great point You make Vicskeyas, continue to stand Sis and be who and what You are in Truth.
Our Youths very clothes that they wear, the words they use, the way they carry themselves, etc. is affected by the very prince of the power of the air that carries them, not all but most.
I have dealt with far more Youth than most that are younger than I. Of course not all and have lived it in multiple realms.
I understand clearly where You are coming from as well as most.
We as black people are affected the most.
The very media and forms of entertainment forms the views that many non-blacks perceive.
The show Martin and others like it when most whites are asked, they think we are laughing hyenas.
Black people in handcuffs, we know what non-black people and many across the world think and view of us.
I know I have been overseas, but of course there are few that have never been overseas that will know more than I do...
There are some that know more than I do, we all have our opinions, rights, choices etc.
The Bible as most know warns throughout about influences and the subtle nature of the devil to deceive.
Only a word was spoken to Eve and altered and murder soon appeared.
Also many kids say a lot of things that a person may want to hear just to appease the person because Youth are our greatest psychologists.
For instance if the Youth felt when I was a Executive Director at a Community center that I would play the music they like if I felt based on their opinion that it had no affects, well what would the Youth say?
Too many adults are being taught by the Youth instead of viceversa...
These are my in general thoughts.
Glad I passed back through here, I did not realize I had signed this already.
Also most people never learn through choices until the affects hit them squarely and then even some of them will not believe as the demons that walk around as mentioned in the Book of Revelations and they still resisted. Some even after a 1000 yr rest of the devil in chains after all they have been through.
Keep fighting forward Sis, Luv 4 ya and keep up the Great work.
It was meant for me to pass back through this blog.
