At my church, my pastor has been teaching about Commitment to Excellence in Service. Now before you all get bent out of shape about the topic..... let me just say he is by no means speaking of perfection. No huMAN is perfect, but should strive to be the best at whatever we do. He used the analogy of an eagle. Eagles are very powerful creatures. They consume living things...they soar as high as the highest mountain and when there is a storm....they can fly above it or just ride the storm. My pastor also stated that we should surround ourselves with people who are striving to be better people. Most times when we are going somewhere, we have friends who are not. People that may be around that may bring negativity to the positive things you are doing. My pastor then used the analogy of the buzzard. Buzzards fly in a pack, they feed off of dead creatures and they do not fly high....when it rains they seek shelter. Now an eagle, although closely related to a buzzard(as a fowl) flies alone, they do not travel in packs....they can stand alone. As eagles, we should not surround ourselves with buzzards, because the buzzards can potentially pull you down while you are soaring high. Any relationship we have that will not benefit us...we should step away from that situation. If you examine where you were last year at this time, you should see improvement this year. Each day I strive to be a better person and I am grateful that I am surrounded by people who challenge me daily to be all that I can be. In my opinion this is the healthiest way to live. What do you think? Please give feedback.
