Think Tank!!! (462 hits)

Hey everybody,

Check this out. It is quite interesting.

Subject: Travis Smiley Think Tank

I don't know whether you all have seen the Black Think Tank that Tavis
Smiley hosts on C-Span every year, but it is powerful food for thought.
Here are a few of the things learned at the Black Think Tank this month.

Facts:

1. The first Americans or Native Americans going back to 13,000 BC were
Black! Look up the Folsom people who lived in Arizona.

2. One of the best reasons to stop our use of the term African American
and say Black. A white person who was born in Africa, who moves to
America is An African American and qualifies for financial aid, etc.,
but will get the jobs/pay privileges afforded to whites.

3. Look up the Slavery Law of 1665 (which stayed in effect until 1968)
and the Maryland Doctrine of Exclusion (1638): both laws state that
blacks must be excluded from the benefits afforded whites, and that
blacks must remain noncompetitive with whites, except in sports and
entertainment.

4. Two white men: Bill Gates and Larry Elision, combined have more
wealth than the combined wealth of all 36 million blacks in America.
Civil Rights did not change the economic landscape or the balance of
power in America.

5. Asians received 80% of all government minority set aside contracts.
Hello!!

6. Blacks eat more fish than whites by a 4 to 1 margin. For every dollar
that whites spend on fish, blacks spend $9 on fish. Fish sold wholesale
for $1 will retail at $2.50 - $3.00. Guess what business we should be in
as Blacks?

7. There isn't any black owned national cable, or major network
television stations. Cathy Hughes, the black woman who owns our only
black owned radio stations, plans to sell to white owners after hearing
the deal Bob Johnson received for selling BET. (Cathy Hughes is from
OMAHA y'all!)

8. There are no black owned companies on the Wall Street Stock Exchange;
where blacks own the majority or controlling interest of the stock.

9. Ninety-six percent (96%) of all black inmates are men.

10. Over the next two years 440,000 black inmates will be released from
prison. The State has no place to put them as they re-enter society. A
profitable business would be a Halfway house!

11. In 1860, 98% of all Blacks in America worked for White people. In
2001, 98% of all Blacks in America still work for white people.

12. In 1860, blacks in America had a combined net worth of one half of 1
percentage point. Guess what, in 2001, after Civil Rights, Jesse
Jackson, Oprah, Shaq, NAACP, and Urban League, our combined net worth
is half a percentage point.

13. For every dollar earned by a Jewish person, that dollar touches 12
to 18 Jewish hands before it leaves their community. For every dollar
earned by a black person it leaves the community soon as he or she earns
it.

14. The last week of April 2003 in Washington, DC black teenagers were
arrested and booked for eating McDonalds on the metro subway. Cops cited
recent 5-4 court decision as the permission to arrest law breakers even
for minor offenses.

15. Sixty-seven percent (67%) of all hate crimes in America are against
blacks.

16. After we get through being pleased that we have carpet in our
office, a secretary, our name on the door and make six figures, we do
not own anything.

17. What will happen if you miss 6 months of work without pay? All we've
left for our children is debt not an inheritance. You cannot pass
welfare or food stamps onto our kids as a nest egg! We are not even in
the race.

18. By the way, the word "race" hit the English language in the 16th
century when Europeans held a contest to see who will win the race to
gather the lost wealth through exploitation of blacks.

19. You must read Powernomics by Claude Anderson. This is our blueprint
to create wealth, not just have a job, but be a business owner, so you
can hire people, be listed on the stock exchange, and develop businesses
to meet our needs.

This is "Good Food" for thought. Share this with children, grand children, best friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, neighbor,
e-mail buddies, etc. please pass it on to all of your "Black Friends."

Wow, Lol! Thanx for the knowledge share and does #4 include Oprah who is a Billionairess and I think # 562 of the Forbes List?

#11, I fight to do my own things i.e. Entrepreneurship, writing etc. I guess if I am not Self-Published I would come up under the 98% scenario?

#10 I know several people who are getting into the HalfWay house business but I do see problems with that due to the increased numbers of s*x offenders and those considered not as violent as others like well he only killed one guy in that robbery attempt, anyway... That is a whole nutha point, Prevention still works the best in my book. Maybe HalfWay houses for At-Risk people as a last alternative before going to jail, I mean the stats show no room anyway and to be released eventually and what is the stat for recidivsm rates anyway?

#19, I will see about reading that book You suggest on "Powernomics". I don't seek wealth but I do seek a comfortable living for family and childrens children.

#16, I have always wanted to own and run it rather than work under anyone for a lifetime...

#12, I did not know Jesse Jackson was a wealthy man.

#7(great number), lets get together and buy BET back and run it the way it should be ran and cease the exploitation of our own people by our own people.
Ironic gangsta rap dudes and duddettes talk all this stuff and the work for and promote the cause of what the owners of their music, I stp here now, don't want to get on a roll.
But hey many black youth look up to them.

A lil extra here, did You know that the preacher/Rapper Mase has a line like having Ho's in the back of the Church pews, is under 50 cent now and Creflo, T.D. Jakes and others back him for that. I saw this in a magazine the other night and have been perplexed about this since...

This is great info.

For #7, there is a black network call Major Broadcasting Cable Network (MBC); it is to empower, embrace and impact urban communities worldwide. MBC has made significant strides over the last five years through our Making Better Communities initiative, on-air enrollment campaign for historically black colleges and universities and Future of Black America forums. This was an excerpt from the American Advertising Federation website on May 19, 2004.

You are right about black owned cable networks, this one is not big yet, but it has great shows. Future of Black America has prominent panelists from time to time to discuss issues in the black community.

MBC is affiliated with the Black Family Channel.

here are the links: http://www.blackfamilychannel.com/index.ph...

Also, Kathy Hughes started a tv network called TVone.

here's the website for more information: http://www.tvoneonline.com/

Take Care and God Bless.

Hi Ms. Moore, excuse me for sounding like a graduate student.

In your thought provoking blog you cited a couple of facts that I would like to issue with:

#2, "Stop using African American" Well, its like using the name *****. Some say it is offensive. But let me pose this salient truth. Two countries in Africa are spelled almost identically as that protean word. Niger and Nigeria. Now, the question to ask is is it a coincidence that ***** and those two nations are closedly spelled alike? To your point more directly. Hyphenated names like African-American as you know is away to mark one's heritage. If a white man is born in Detroit (which by the way is America's largest city with the highest proportion of African Americans (82% of 1,000,000)) is he a Detroiter, and similarly, to use your example is a White Afrikanner (South African Berber) an African-American if they are born here? Yes. Yes. Should I want to move to another planet so others won't be called Earthling? Is this along the same reasoning. The main point here is to know your history so you won't be bamboozled and hoodwinked like X said we would because we fail to know our legacy.
#4, "Does Bill Gates and Larry Ellison have more money than Blacks?" NOT! NO! Blacks as a cohort in America have in excess of 400billion. Its ours until we spend at Tommy Hil*****s or whereever! Tangetially, if African-Americans bought some MS Stock in 1984 when it started-up when his market capitalization was around 40million we would be very informed about the stock market. So, this is about information and action or the lack of it. Whose to blame for that Ms. Moore?
#8, "I looked at the BE 100 the othe day and we have firms doing 1billion dollars in sales! Blacks! Now if some of those banks would merge and some of those firms would merge together they could create synergy and strength and possibly place themselves in position to acquire a behemouth at a reasonable rate (Reginal Lewis did this-so don't say it ain't possible). By the way, there is a legal manuever (got to have the information) where a company can by a NYSE listing and refashion the company to a new business model circumventing the tedious process of becoming listed from scratch, which is overwhelming, per se. Get with some Investment Bankers and see if what I tell ya ain't so!
#11, "In 1860 95% of Blacks were slaves. In 2006 we have slave mentalities. We represent the 'twoness' of psycho-socialy dsyfunctioning. Dubois spoke to this. This is really a phobia of some kind. Its psychotic to be sure. We don't vote-I despise those that say behind the cloak of perogative (Bobby Brown started this !@#$%) "man voting don't do nut'n" (Yeah, that's why Medgar Evers caught a bullet and King, and X and Fannie Lou Hammer fought so we can say some assine !@#$% like dat!) Whose fault is that Ms. Moore? Slavery mentality is a vestige of that 'peculiar institution'. How many of us know who Reggie Lewis is (TLC Beatrice)!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have to learn first what an ARM is and a LBO and the difference between a Series 7 and a Series 6-no joking around. Oh, do I know because I was an MBA at Harvard-not! I aspire to go there--but being raised on AFDC and moving 7 times before I got to 18 is definitely not a Blue-Blood resume. I was a history major that devoured all information-posed questions and utilzie something called a Library Card! More so called Blacks have drivers licenses than African Americans with Library Cards. One cost $10-30 the other is free! You figure it out Ms. Moore.
#16, "Blacks don't own anything?" Blacks own a lot-to regurgitate these misnomers is psychologically disabling. A more subtle point related to this would be not to become what CG Woodson, Ph.D. dubbed "MisEducated" in his seminal work the MisEducation of the Negro! This is exactly when you get that six figure job and then hold other so called Blacks back and forget the struggle and start acting like a gatekeeper for Willie Lynch!

I have enjoyed your blog and I hope you would respond to mines from time to time. I write every satruday. Good job posting this information, much of it is unassailable!

My professors in graduate school are fond of saying disagreeing is good. Remember, if you keep posting intelligent blogs we might catch on to your example and read more. Thanks for making us read.
