African-Americans Who Are Considering Teaching English S. Korea/China/Japan check this out (excerpt) (1064 hits)

I’m living and working South Korea right now. I was all ready to press the abort button here. I’m white by the way. I have an African American friend who’d been so hurt by all of this. Sometimes we walk around the city together. Later my students often as me why I’d be friends with a “negro.” They also ask me if I’m ok with a “negro” running America… It sickens me. It also sickens me that they think I’m a pervert because I’m a white guy. I would have left a long time ago if I didn’t fall in love with a Korean girl who just got back from studying abroad. As soon as she’s done university, I’m outta here with her and I’m never looking back. This place is one of the most painful, hateful places I’ve ever been. It hurts me inside listening to what they say. No country exists in isolation. Someday we all pay the price for hate and ignorance. Someday everything that happens here will come back to haunt this nation and it will be a painful awakening, when they face a disaster situation and no one comes to help.

I apologize to everyone who has red this post because I always believe that one has to experience a situation for themselves before they can make a decision and I failed to practice what I preach. I am currently in Munsan, South Korea my employer Papyong Elementary has shown me the error of my ways. The students and staff here show me so much love that I don't want to come back to America right now that is how deep teachers are respected here. Think doctor, lawyer that is the level of respect that I get here. My employer makes sure that all of my needs are met. Race is irrelevant here, either you're an outsider or a native what really matters is your country of origin. Americans are welcomed here nad if you teach English like I do then you are loved beyond comprehension. My nickname here in South Korea is the "Fourth Dimension," with that being said think about branching out internationally because the world is bigger than America keep that in mind.
