The Blogger: Edition 5 (617 hits)

"I categorically deny all the charges brought against me. This is something that has been drummed up by the Democrats. Sorry...too much CNN." - Will Smith, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Welcome to the fifth edition of The Blogger. For those of you who don't know, The Blogger comes out EVERY Tuesday. Well, it's been an interesting weekend here in Dallas for me. It was the Juneteenth celebration and so much more going on. Before I go into that, I'd like to give thanks to those who wished me happy birthday this past Saturday. It was my 20th b-day. Thanks for the b-day shoutout blog, Monica. Hope to see you soon! I also HAVE to thank Chika Chukwu who called my phone and left me a singing b-day message on it. That was very sweet of her. That's my homegirl! Also, a shoutout to all the June birthdays as well. Geminis are better! Let's jump into it, shall we?

This weekend was the annual Black Independence Day. It was a nice weekend in Dallas, as they had the 97.9 Summer Jam, Fair Park had a celebration on, Ruby D was honored as a filmaker, and so much more. Unfortunately, I stayed in the house waiting on a "date" with a friend that never happened. We were supposed to be hooking up so she could show me around, but that fell through. Nevertheless, I enjoyed taking my day off, as I had to work on Sunday, but it was worth it. I got to meet Darrius McCray (Eddie Winslow off of Family Matters) and Darrin Henderson (Darrin's Dance Moves and a character on Showtime's Soul Food). Dallas is full of celebrities, and I didn't even know it. I enjoyed my time though...

I went to see a movie screening of Hustle & Flow on Thursday. It was a good movie. The movie is about a pimp who decides to try to make it in the rap game. Unfortunately, it's an uphill battle as his "clients" start making their own decisions. If you don't like a lot of profanity, then don't go see this movie. Anthony Anderson does a good job of playing the role of a guy whose dream never came true. Ludacris was in the movie, but his part was minimal. So don't expect to see Luda play a major roll until the end of the movie. But it was a VERY good movie. I recommend going to see it when it comes out, as it gives you a very in-depth view of the rap game and the hassle it takes to make it. Check it out. Hope I didn't spoil it for you...

Some surprising news happened last week as Cassidy has been charged with murder. That's wierd to me, because I never saw Cass as a murderer. Apparently, he got into an argument with some guys, and it didn't end nicely. According to police, Cass and two others opened fire, killing a dude who was shot in the back. I wonder if Cass will be able to get out of this. But then again, it's just another story of a rapper who is wasting his life again. Why can't rappers just keep a clean record? The only rapper I know like that is Ludacris. Almost all others have had some beef with the law since they made it big. I hope this doesn't hurt Cass career...as it was just taking off. But if he did do it...he deserves it...

Man...the Pistons are really killing my mood. How can they lead most of overtime and lose it within one minute. That was a crazy, but good game. Robert Horry is showing he still has some skill, as he knocked down the dagger that killed the Pistons. I have to give him his props, as he played well the entire game. What can the Pistons do? They are the first team to lose at home in the series. I was expecting Pistons to pull it out, and go back to San Antonio for two great back-to-back games. But it looks like the series could end Tuesday...which sucks. Hopefully, it doesn't. I'm not ready for baseball season yet...

Before I wrap up this edition. I have to give props to Bow Wow and Mariah Carey. Bow Wow's career was in jeopardy as many fans were upset with his last CD when they found out it only had 9 - 11 songs on it. However, Bow Wow has come out with a hot new single, and upped his game a little bit. He's come a long way from "Bounce With Me" featuring the virtually unknown Destiny's Child (they weren't even credited in the video!). However, I expect them to be upset again, as Walmart.com has his new CD Wanted listed with only 9 tracks. Mariah Carey has bounced back after a movie about her life failed and having a stress attack (I think you call them that). Well, her new CD has given a "rebirth" to her career, as it was on the Billboard #1 spot for a while. I'm feeling that single "We Belong Together," even though they overplaying it on the radio. Props to both of those artists for doing their thing despite the critics.

I guess I'll wrap up this version of The Blogger. Man...it's been a long week. Make sure you save at least 20 bucks to cop Diary of a Mad Black Woman when it hits stores on the 28th! I'll be buying it at Wal-Mart, as you will be able to save about $4 off the retail price. So it'll be around $17, but take $20 to make sure. Let's see...what else is going on? Nothing much really. It's time to enter the "baseball" period. I hate this time. There's only one sport that's really active and that's baseball. When is there going to be an Arena Basketbal Association??? Anywho, I'll be watching Hitch this weekend, as I bought it with my last 20 bucks. Hopefully, it's worth it. But I think I can trust Mrs. Brown when she says buy it. If not, she's owes me money anyway. OK...I guess I'll sign out now. Well...not literally, but...you understand. Until next time, wash your hands before you eat! Peace!

The Pistons....you know that brings a tear to my eye man. It was a great game and one mistake cost it for them. If only 'sheed had guarded Horry after the inbounds pass instead of going for the trap and steal.....I mean, Horry is like the exact opposite of one Chris Webber. When the pressure is on, that's when big Rob is at his best (I mean, he doesn't have 5 rings for nothing). I still expect it to go 7 though, at least I hope it does, because I'm like you with baseball. I respect it as a sport to PLAY....but watching it sucks....
