You can’t tell me that it doesn’t hurt
When people live their lives to humiliate.
You who have given so much to others since birth
Became the victim of their greediness, a victim of their hate.
When people malign, they do damage to the soul
To be most effective they spread seeds of doubt
To any who will listen and help support their goal
Inevitably, the lies take root and they begin to sprout.
Through it all, somehow, you held on to your dignity
With arrow straight back and slightly raised chin.
The pain you felt inside, you hid, so the world could not see
Knowing in your heart that the love you have for children is not a sin.
You can’t tell me that it doesn’t hurt
When you gave of yourself so unconditionally
To people who were merely waiting to treat you like dirt
Who ‘lynched’ you with their lies so zealously.
Your Mom, and, your Dad… they have suffered as well
No one can know the depth of their grief and pain
To hear the egregious lies told must have been their ‘hell’
As the accuser and media repeated them again and again.
You can’t tell me that it doesn’t hurt
When evil attempts to annihilate what is good
And when ‘true’ criminals try to rob you of your self-worth
Yet ‘truth’ prevailed as you had known that it would.
Your brothers and sisters all took their place
To protect you, their younger brother, from media attack
Defying the rumors that you had fallen from grace
Proving to the entire world that they had your ‘back'.
You can’t tell me that it doesn’t hurt
When you find out who really is your FRIEND
During stressful times that made you question your birth
He will reveal his loyalty by remaining until the very end.
The media is having a field day with your personal life
They want to make a mockery of you and of your career
They call in so-called ‘experts’ whose opinions cut like a knife
Clearly, your livelihood they seek to ruin, your reputation they pledge to smear.
I have always believed that a censorship should be in place
To protect people from news vultures, like CNN’s Nancy Grace.
Now you must celebrate your life by not running away
Draw strength from your family, and, of course, YAHWEH.
You were royalty BEFORE you became the world’s “King of Pop”
Why, you were Katherine’s little ‘prince’, her pride and joy!
Possessing great talent and a determination no one could stop
It doesn’t matter that you have become a LEGEND, to her you’re still her ‘baby boy’.
The weight that you have carried required much emotional fortitude
It is understandable that you need to reflect in complete solitude.
So, patiently we will wait with our arms opened to embrace
You, Michael, when you are ready… but, for now we give you your space.
You can’t tell me that it doesn’t hurt.
