"Exalted Through Humble"
Luke 14:10-11
Jesus taught two lessons here. First, he spoke to the guests, telling them not to seek places of honor. Service is more important in God's Kingdom than status. Second, he told the host not to be exclusive about whom he invited. God opens the Kingdom to everyone.
How can we humble ourselves? Some people try to give the appearance of humility in order to manipulate others. Others think that humility means putting themselves down. Truly humble people compare themselves with Christ, realize their sinfulness, and understand their limitations. On the other hand, they also recognize their gifts and strengths and are willing to use them as Christ directs. Humility is not self-degradation; it is realistic self-assessment and commitment to serve.
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
"Humility is the root of love. Humility exerts an irresistible power upon God." - Simone Weil
BLACK HISTORY TRIVIA:
Congratulations to Tyrone Walston, who struck back with the quickness with the correct answer, Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Here is today's very easy question: Frederick Douglass was born on this day in 1817. Please e-mail me by any one of his nicknames that he is known by.
