When you were mailing your gifts over the holidays, you may have wandered into a U-S Post Office looking for stamps for your Christmas cards. Instead of waiting in the long line, it's always convenient to just go to the stamp machine and quickly buy a few. But over the holidays, all stamp vending machines in post offices across Bay County were boarded up.The machines are obsolete and postal representatives say the machine's parts have been discontinued and they are unable to service them. But this is not the only thing going on.
The Postal Service says the decision to remove the self-service stamp machines was made at the national level. It decided the equipment is old and it would be better if we just purchase stamps at retail outlet convenience counters, like grocery stores and drug stores. The Postal Service says it have decided to go out of the vending machine business altogether, except in remote areas where convenience stores are inaccessible. They are aware this is an unpopular decision, but they are asking you not to call the local postmaster concerning the situation. Instead, you are asked to call the postal service 800 number at 1-800-275-8777.
