Men's Player of the Week
Anthony Hilliard, ECSU, Jr., Guard, 6-3, 205, Fayetteville, NC GP
Top Performance vs. SPC 1/24/08 FG
Hilliard posted three double-doubles this week in wins over Chowan, Saint Paul's and Virginia Union to bring his career total to 31. He now leads the CIAA in both scoring and rebounding and is the only men’s basketball player averaging a double-double in the conference.
Men's Rookie of the Week
Hayward Fain, Saint Augustine’s, Forward, 6-4, 194, Akron, OH GP
Top Performance vs. JCSU 1/22/08 FG
Fain averaged 10 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2 steals in two games; both wins. He made two free throws with 17 seconds left to give the Falcons a 69-68 win over Johnson C. Smith. The win gave the Falcons sole possession of first place in the Western Division.
Men's Coach of the Week
Shawn Walker, Elizabeth City State University
Coach Walker led ECSU to a 3-0 record this week, picking up road wins at Chowan and Saint Paul's. The Vikings have won five straight and 9 of their last 10 games and are off to their best start under Coach Walker at 12-4.
Women's Player of the Week
Celeste Trahan, ECSU, 6-2, Center, Senior, Stockton, CA GP
Top Performance vs. SPC 1/26/08 FG
Celeste now has 79 career double-doubles with 14 points and 13 rebounds against Virginia Union. She is 3 points away from becoming the first woman in ECSU history (and fourth ever, male or female) to score 2,000 points in a career. In NCAA Division II, she is 3rd in scoring and 1st in rebounding.
Women's Rookie of the Week
Tiffany Haywood, Fayetteville St., 5-9, Center, Fayetteville, NC GP
Top Performance vs. Shaw 1/24/08 FG
Haywood scored a career-high 25 points to help the Lady Broncos earn a road win against Shaw University. Haywood has averaged 15.3 ppg in Fayetteville State's last three games.
Women's Coach of the Week
Eric Tucker, Fayetteville State University
Coach Tucker currently has the Lady Broncos on a five game winning streak, including road wins against Elizabeth City State, Livingstone, and Shaw.
