"A Friend's Request"
Luke 11:5-8
I have often said you can gain a great deal of theology from watching cartoons. This is one of those passages in which a cartoon comes to mind. You recall The Flinstones and at the end of every episode, Fred and the saber tooth tiger take turns putting each other out of the house. Finally, the tiger outsmarts Fred and locks the door. As a result, Fred bangs on the door screaming, "Wilmaaaaaaaaa"! And, if you look closely, as all of this is going on, all of the lights in the Bedrock neighborhood come on to see what the commotion is about. What spiritual principle does this teach us?
Persistence, or boldness, in prayer overcomes our insensitivity, not God's. To practice persistence does more to change our heart and mind than His, and it helps us understand and express the intensity of our need. Persistence in prayer helps us recognize God's work.
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
"Whoever knocks persistently, ends by entering." - 'Ali
BLACK HISTORY TRIVIA:
Congratulations to Tilola Mitchell who was the first to send me a favorite quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Here is today's question: I would love to see this singer, dancer, and producer who was born on this day in 1950 in Houston, TX do the cupid shuffle, the soulja boy, or the chicken noodle soup. Who am I referring to?
