HU ANNOUNCES NEW COLLEGE AND PROGRAM

Hampton, Va. – In conjunction with the first day of classes, Hampton University announces the creation of a new college and a new program for the 2007-2008 academic year.

The new College of Education and Continuing Studies is comprised of two divisions, the Division of Education and the Division of Continuing Studies. HU welcomes Dr. Cassandra Herring as dean of the College of Education and Continuing Studies.

The Division of Education encompasses all aspects of education training at HU. It includes the HU Child Development Center, Department of Education and Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

The Division of Continuing Studies, formerly known as the College of Continuing Education, offers professional and career education and training for students over the age of 21. The division offers degree and certificate program courses and also includes the highly successful Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

HU will also offer a degree in criminal justice and criminology beginning in January 2008 through the Department of Sociology. New courses will be offered in such areas as corrections, homeland security, cyber criminal investigation, anti-terrorism and criminal justice.

“Now we will be exposing our students to more than criminological research. Now they will be exposed to the criminal justice field,” explained Dr. Zina McGee, professor of sociology.

For more information on the College of Education and Continuing Studies, please call (757) 727-5773. For more information on the Department of Sociology's criminal justice program, please contact Dr. Zina McGee at (757) 727-6913.
