NAACP Burying the N word? (675 hits)

Will this funeral truly diminish the usage of this atrocious word? What happened to the NAACP of the Civil Rights Era that fought for equality?

I saw the coverage of this event. I understand the motivation behind it, but I think it symbolizes what's wrong with modern Black social activism.

Aside from this press conference, has the NAACP created any mechanism whatsoever for stopping its use?

Is there any communication with schools and educators to help bring this message to young people? Have they interacted with any community leaders and organizations (outside of Detroit) and held them accountable? What about any real dialogue with movie and record producers?

This event was a throwback to the NAACP's 1944 mock burial for Jim Crow. The difference between 1944 and now is that then NAACP devoted its best and brightest to fighting legal discrimination in the courtroom, in the streets, in churches and schools. None of that has been done with this issue.

The sad thing is that it's much easier to convince Black parents not to use or encourage this language in their family than it was to convince 1940s segregationists to obey the Constitution. Disappointing.
