Class of 2010 - Preparing for College Are You Ready? The Time Is Now!!! (3641 hits)

Preparing for college is a major task. Many times we go in search of but, without guidance or knowledge we sometimes begin the road too late or we don’t know which direction to go. I have prepared a detailed overview on college preparation. The most crucial period for this preparation is from the 9th to 12th grade. It is during this period that a student’s overall GPA is created. The GPA determines the student class rank. Also it is while in this phase of the student’s life that he/she may start building up his/her volunteer hours. These hours are used to determine the student’s community service involvement. These and other factors determine the student’s college readiness and if he/she will be able to obtain entrance or scholarships to attend a University or College of his or her choice.

With this in mind, I decided to create a college preparation packet for parents and students to use as a guide to assist them in preparing for college and obtaining various college opportunities. This information was gathered over the years from me preparing my oldest son and daughter for college. I used various sources and individuals to gain this information. It didn’t happen overnight, but through my determination to know, it was received openly.

Also because the ACT/SAT is very important in the college acceptance process, I ask especially that the Class of 2010 enroll in the next ACT exam scheduled in October and SAT Exam. If registration has expired for both, but students can apply as Standby Tester on the day of the exam. There is an extra fee for both (ACT is $39 and SAT is $36.50) Space is limited need to come early with your application packet complete allong with the correct registration fees. If you choose going in as a Standby Tester, make sure you go to the registration location early, have your application packet completed along with the correct registration fee. Try to choose a site that won't be packed or croweded with already registered students so that you will have a better chance in gaining admittances for the exam.

The reason you might consider taking the exams in June, is because the next available exams are scheduled in October (a few areas in September) and many of the deadlines for college applications to include the most recent ACT/SAT exam are by the December exam. Many of the colleges/universities won't take Exam scores taken after the application deadline date. In addition, taking the exam(s) in June will allow the student to prepare properly on any areas they need help or assistance with.

Soror Chaundra, you made my day this morning and I thank you for your following message:

Mrs Herd: Thank you for this blog. I am the Site Manager for online courses at MAHS. This has introduced me to an entire population of students who have not adequately been exposed to college prep. This is helping me tremendously. I hope to have some info of value to you and your readers soon. AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR GIVING BACK!

If only the others could see what you do. The work on the blog has been ordained and is waiting on the others to take hold of. We must get on timeline and understand how to do so.

Just an fyi....Harvard's deadline for the "Class of 2010" was on January 1, 2010. Please don't get left behind and utilize the blog located at http://www.ctherd.blogspot.com and share with others. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
