PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship to host largest field in history

BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - The 21st PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship is set to feature the largest field in the history of the National Championship, which will take place for the 10th consecutive year at The PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., May 11-13, 2007. A record 38 colleges and universities are scheduled to participate, including nine schools that will compete for the first time.
"The PGA of America is pleased to host the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship again this year and showcase some outstanding players from America's minority serving universities," said Joe Steranka, PGA of America Chief Executive Officer. "This Championship also helps us cultivate relationships with those contestants who desire a career in golf, including one as a PGA Professional. This is an integral part of our Association's mission to reach out to people of color and include them in the game and business of golf."
The 54-hole, stroke-play Championship will consist of four divisions: NCAA Men's Division I and II, and NAIA Men's and Women's. In addition, there is an Individual Invitational competition for minority Men and Women contestants. The Individual Invitational is open to students who are African-American, Hispanic-America, Native or Alaskan American, Asian or Pacific Island American.
The PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship will be contested on the Ryder and Wanamaker Courses at The PGA Golf Club and feature more than 180 athletes, an increase that is over and above 50 competitors from
last year's event.
