NCCU Searches For New Chancellor (572 hits)

Chancellor North Carolina Central University North Carolina Central University (NCCU) invites nominations and applications for the position of Chancellor of the University. The Chancellor of NCCU is the executive and administrative head of the University, exercising primary authority over the University’s mission and operations, subject to the direction of the President of the University of North Carolina. NCCU is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina, a sixteen-campus system governed by a Board of Governors elected by the Legislature of the State of North Carolina. NCCU's Mission: The mission of the University is to prepare students academically, socially and professionally to become leaders who will succeed in their chosen professions while advancing the consciousness of social responsibility in a diverse, global society. It is our goal to live out the University's motto of "Truth and Service." NCCU continues to serve its traditional clientele of African American students and has an expanded commitment to meet the educational needs of a student body of over 8,600 students representing geographical, socioeconomic and racial diversity. North Carolina Central University is a comprehensive university offering programs at the baccalaureate, master’s, professional and selected doctoral levels. It is the nation’s first public liberal arts institution founded for African Americans. The University maintains a strong liberal arts tradition and a commitment to academic excellence in a diverse educational and cultural environment. It seeks to encourage intellectual productivity and to enhance the academic and professional skills of its students and faculty. Known for its intense curriculum in the liberal arts, business, library and information sciences, law and education, NCCU is also developing outstanding programs and facilities in biotechnology and biomanufacturing. The Julius L. Chambers Biomedical/Biotechnology Research Institute is an innovative research and training institute with 40,000 sq. ft. of basic research space dedicated to the advancement of fundamental knowledge of human diseases supported by NCCU and through a variety of other public and private sources. NCCU’s Biomanufacturing Research Institute and Technology Enterprise (BRITE) began accepting students in the 2006 – 2007 academic year. In 2006, NCCU’s School of Law students passed the State Bar Examination at a rate of 86%; the highest of any historically black college in the country. The Princeton Review lists NCCU Law as one of the nation’s top 170 law schools. With unprecedented enrollment growth and rapid construction of new buildings across the campus, NCCU is well positioned for the future. As the fastest growing institution in the University of North Carolina System, NCCU experienced an enrollment increase of over 5% in 2006. Black Enterprise (BE) magazine named NCCU as one of the Top 50 Colleges for African Americans in the nation in its September 2006 edition. The Chancellor's Position: The Chancellor shall provide overall leadership and vision to guide the University as it celebrates its first centennial and embarks on the next 100 years. The Chancellor must possess an understanding of, and preferably will possess relevant experience in dealing with the unique challenges and opportunities inherent in leadership of a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). Applicants and nominees should possess an earned doctorate, appropriate terminal degree, or experience sufficient to engender respect from all constituents of the University, the local community, and the academic world. The successful candidate shall be an individual of great personal integrity, and shall be a visionary leader who possesses the following: �� The ability and experience to advance NCCU to its next level of excellence. �� The ability to build upon NCCU’s recent academic and athletic successes and a commitment to continue and broaden the University’s upward momentum. �� Sound management and team building skills with the ability to oversee NCCU’s unprecedented enrollment growth and campus expansion. �� A strong commitment to the local community and a willingness to be a visible and active participant. �� A proven fundraiser with the ability to successfully represent the University to a varied marketplace and garner financial support from multiple sources. NCCU's Prime Location: NCCU is located in the eastern section of North Carolina's Piedmont, within the world-famous Research Triangle. The city of Durham, with a population of nearly 208,000, is part of a larger standard metropolitan area with 1.2 million people.
