As I was watching the half time show of the Superbowl between the Indianapolis Colts (Black Coach Tony Dungy) and Da Chicago Bears (Black Coack Lovie Smith), I just happened to notice after several stares that the Florida A&M University (Rattla's) Band played and performed and I did not know they were going to be there. I have a brother Wesley Hemmans that is a Sophmore saxaphone player in the band.
I thought about our HBCU site dwelling to the long overdue history being made in two black coaches and I picked the Colts sentimentally. I heard the comments of the broadcasters who stated how Dungy does not curse and when Dungy made a mistake and stated one time that he was going to be on the "Best D Sports Show", he responded by stating he would not use the D-word in the title of the show he was going to be a guest on. I also admired how Dungy carried himself with grace after he was fired by the Tampa Bay Bucs who Dungy put together and won a Super Bowl with his replacement. The Bucs with no dis meant are in shambles now. Also if anyone recalls, Dungy lost his 18 year old son just last year.
Anyway, just wanted to share the great news, one black HBCU that performs for an event as the Super Bowl which is a worldwide event represents all HBCU's. Usually Division one white colleges are represented. The year a black HBCU such as FAMU was selected is the year two black coaches led their teams to be there...
