NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL UNIVERSITY’S SCHOOL OF LAW BAR PASSAGE RATE HAS INCREASE
DURHAM, N.C. * North Carolina Central University’s (NCCU) School of Law has posted an 86% passage rate, the highest of any historically black law school in the U.S. In July 2006, 86% of the law school graduates passed the North Carolina bar exam on the first attempt.
“Our 86 % bar passage rate for first-time takers of the North Carolina bar exam represents three consecutive years of increase,” said Raymond Pierce, dean of the NCCU School of Law. “This increase is due to the excellent work performed by our bar preparation team and the quality of our outstanding students and faculty.”
In addition to the rate being higher than the passage rate of any historically black law school in the summer of 2006, the rate is neck and neck with law schools in the state. The only other public law school in the state, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, had a 87% rate and the nationally ranked top tier, Wake Forest School of Law had a passage rate was 88%.
Always committed to providing opportunities, the NCCU School of Law has continued to grow over the decades and currently has a student population of 550 students. Authorized in 1939, the school admitted its first female student in 1944. The School of Law's evening program was launch in 1981 and is the only evening law school program between Atlanta and Washington, D.C.
The NCCU School of Law is fully accredited by the North Carolina State Bar Council and the American Bar Association.
