Reflection, Remembrance and Perseverance (170 hits)

As we approach the celebration of civil rights leader, the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a member of my family emailed a video of footage (2005) taken during funeral services for the late civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks.

The portion that seemed to bring about a good discussion was the segment wherein the Rev. Al Sharpton spoke his eulogy of Mrs. Parks.

I located a video on a news site that contains several segments on various individuals, besides Sharpton, who spoke at the funeral, but it is Sharpton's speech that I am attempting to highlight via this site.

Anyway, I would hope that you view the video and make you own conclusions on the state of the "black community." Also, I'll add that one of the most poignant parts of the Rev. Al Sharpton’s moving eulogy of Rosa Parks was when he said, “Mirrors are not only to reflect what you see. Mirrors are to correct what you see.”
(You will hopefully understand what I mean better after listening to Sharpton's speech.)

Nonetheless, as we reflect and remember the struggles of our forefathers, let us continue to persevere through peaceful words and actions, with the visions of those who made their stand against injustices so that they, others, and ALL of us could experience life with dignity and equality.
