NCCU TO ANNOUNCE NEW COLLABORATION WITH JAMAICA
DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central University (NCCU) will announce an international partnership with Jamaican-based non-profit, Upliftment Jamaica that will assist the developing country with ongoing education reform.
“We are looking forward to the benefits of this partnership,” said Chancellor James H. Ammons. “We applaud Uplift Jamaica for giving us this opportunity. We also see the collaboration as an opportunity to provide assistance in an area where we are needed. This partnership will also expand the global experiences of our students and provide them with unique learning experiences that will help them to achieve their goals.“
The partnership will be announced during the Upliftment Jamaica's annual Fundraising Gala on December 9, at 7:30 p.m.
For the past eight years, Upliftment Jamaica has been dedicated to reaching out and raising awareness, educating and inspiring people to create an empowering future for themselves, their environment and their homeland.
“Upliftment wishes to create, support and provide opportunities to the people of Jamaica, to establish and continue ongoing transformation in their lives and the country as a whole,” said Gary Foster, chairman of Upliftment Jamaica.
Dr. Emmanuel Oritsejafor, director of the International Program at NCCU, has created a unique opportunity for both students and faculty to travel abroad to Jamaica, and engage in the local instruction of Jamaican students through five areas of study: teacher education, hospitality and tourism, criminal justice, health education and entrepreneurial science.
At the conclusion of six weeks of intensive classes, Jamaican pupils will receive an accredited certificate of completion from Upliftment Jamaica and North Carolina Central University.
Delegations from NCCU will receive valuable international experience and credit in their disciplines. A pilot program is slated for summer 2007.
Ammons was presented with the Educational Advancement Award at the 2005 Upliftment Jamaica Gala for his success in educational advancement.
