Delaware State Men and Coppin State Women Picked to Win 2006-07 MEAC Basketball Crowns

October 12, 2006

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its preseason basketball
predictions Thursday at the 2006 Basketball Press Luncheon held in the RBC Center. The league’s Head
Coaches and Sports Information Directors chose the Delaware State men and Coppin State women to
capture the 2006-07 MEAC titles.

Delaware State received all 14 first place votes this season. Last year, Delaware State finished 16-2 in the
MEAC, 21-14 overall, and won their second consecutive regular season title.
Norfolk State and Florida A&M finish second and third in the poll, while Coppin State and last year’s MEAC
Tournament champion Hampton round out the top five.

On the women’s side, Coppin State repeats as the favorite to take home the women’s title, receiving 18 of
20 first place votes. The Lady Eagles won the MEAC championship crown for the second year in a row last
season and finished with an 18-0 record in the conference.

Delaware State, 13-5 in the conference last season, came in second in this year’s poll, earning one first
place vote. Maryland-Eastern Shore, Howard and South Carolina State complete the preseason top five.
Hampton kicks off the MEAC men’s basketball season, November 7-8, at the 2K Sports Hoops Classic at
Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y. and Delaware State’s men travel to the University of Pittsburgh
November 14 for their season opener.

South Carolina State starts the MEAC women’s basketball season as they travel to the College of
Charleston November 10. The Delaware State women open their season, against Columbia, at home the
same day and Coppin State heads to George Washington University two days later for their first game. For
