"Class of 2007", the clock for the first semester is winding down. There is only about 2 1/2 months prior to many high schools across the country going on "Christmas Break". I ask the questions to the students/parents of the "Class of 2007" is: Are you Ready and Started the College Application/Scholarship process? Have you accumulated your Community Service Hours? Do you know the Role of Community Service on your Admission/Scholarship process? Have you went on any or all of your College Tours? Have "We" (students/parents) started the application process? Have we narrowed down our colleges/universities selections? Have you created your resume? Have you selected your references to provided you with reference letters? Have "we" (students/parents) met with our guidance counselor? Have you mapped down the deadlines for application/scholarships for each college you plan on applying for? Have you applied for your PIN number to apply for FAFSA (http://www.pin.ed.gov/PINWebApp/pinindex.jsp)? Have you register with Fastweb? Have you registered to take your ACT/SAT? Do you have your Social Security Number? If you are a male student, have you registered with the Selective Services? Overall, do you know how to apply for colleges and scholarships?
The above are just a few questions that the "Class of 2007" should have already been working on or completed the process to. If you haven't started or don't understand the process, please go to my Planning and Preparing for College Blog (http://www.ctherd.blogspot.com) and use the Right Side that provides many of the answers to the questions above. If you still don't find exactly what you want, check with your school, the college or the various agencies that provide the information.
My advice to the Class of 2007 is to complete your applications for college before "Christmas Break". This will allow you to use the next semester to verify that everything is in order before many of the national deadlines (January 15th, February 1st, February 15th, etc). You must check with each college/university to see when their application deadline is.
