Barkley run for governor worth supporting? (344 hits)

Charles Barkley, Basketball Hall of Famer and republican, recently turned democrat, and
most recently announced a possible 2010 run for governor of Alabama.

The Democratic Party chairman in AL spoke positively about the decision late last week, of course others, not so positive and still others ridiculed it altogether.

Is Barkley's decision to "help" Alabama in this way, a plus or a minus? He's got the cash and the charisma, but does he have the strategic skills and leadership to overcome the controversy in Alabama politics right now and bring the state to higher ground?

Then again, did the last guy?? The consideration is stirring things up at the least. I wonder is it more because he's a high profile basketball player or because he's a Black man considering Alabama's highest office with enough money to at least have an impact.

WELL, THIS IS VERY NEW TO ME, BUT FOR SOME REASON, READING THIS TRIGGERED THE STIR-UP ABOUT ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER RUNNING FOR CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR...WE HAVE SEEN WHAT HAPPENS WHEN AN AMERICAN ICON, AN ACTOR, IS PUT IN A GOVERNMENT POSITION....DO WE REALLY WANT TO TAKE THE CHANCE WITH A BASKETBALL ICON....?

more than likely he won't get my vote, unless he has some very good plans and all of a sudden sounds intelligent. i am not haten but Alabama really needs help with their education funds and i am not just voting for someone because they are black or because he is famous. he is really going to have to prove himself, and i will be listening.

Being a good basketball player and having some money doesn't make you and automatic leader. First, I can't vote in the election, out of state. But I haven't seen where he has made an impact in his community or county. To be a leader one must be a servant. I can tell by his lifestyle that he doesn't know who he is or where he has come from as a people.
The guy is sleeping with the enemy.
