The foolish single is characterized by a lack of discretion, judgement or prudence.
This is the brother or sister who is out of control! Not only do you behave foolishly but you also can be made a fool of. You often thoughtlessly and ignorantly engage in or experiment with relationships that are fruitless, unhealthy or immoral. You willingly allow your body to become the vehicle for your passions and fantasies by seeking to gratify your senses--sight, smell, sound, taste and touch.
As a foolish single, you satisfy your flesh by looking at what pleases your eyes without remembering the old adage that "everything that looks good to you is not good for you!" You long to fill your nostrils with the fragrance of ecstasy while disregarding the fact that even the aroma of poison can be camoflaged. As a foolish single, you listen to the pleasant sound of sweet nothings in your ear, never recognizing that it is really nothing that you're hearing. You yearn to taste the flavor of love without recalling that you have never known love. Actually, you wouldn't know the flavor even if you tasted it.
Finally, the foolish single craves the tender touch of a human that cares! This often translates into s*x, s*x, and more s*x.
Ty Adams, an evangelist, speaker and author based outside of Detroit, MI., talks about the foolish lifestyle she once lived in her January 2006 release entitled Single, Saved and having s*x (Walk Worthy Press/Warner Books).
"I remember when the movie Indecent Proposal came out and the debatable question was asked: "Would you sleep with someone for one night for a million dollars?" Many of you would take the money without thinking. Oh you wouldn't? Well, how much could someone pay you to cheat on God? If you're single and having s*x, you're cheating on Him now without the money. I don't have to use my imagination to see what you might do if a million was on the table. many proposals were offered to me and I cheated on God, again and again. Man after man, bed after bed, one relationship after another."
As a single, if you become so love-starved that you open yourself up to foolish acts and foolish games, you have surrendered your value. You become a victim of low self esteem.
If you allow yourself to lower your standard of s*xual purity because you are weakened by the utterances like "If you love me, you will make love to me." Or, "We can have s*x because we are married in the eyes of God!" it is a sure sign that you are in a foolish state.
This state of foolishness is also characterized by the willingness to do anything to prove your affection and love for someone else. Ephesians 5:22 reads, "Wives submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord." Verse 25 of that chapter declares, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it..." Love often calls for you to go to the outer limits; as is apparent in these passages; but only for your wife or husband. Never go to the outer limits for anyone other than those that have paid the price for your allegiance; AND THAT PRICE IS THE COMMITMENT OF MARRIAGE.
Preside over your passions. Foolish behavior is the mark of an individual that has surrendered their self-control to their passions. Embrace your singleness by presiding over your passions and your passions will never preside over you.
