During a recent visit to the home of some of my relatives, I became engaged in a conversation about dating and other types of male/female relationships as well as and the types of men my female cohorts and I had dated or been involved with in some way (you fill in the blanks).
Anyway, I guess we’d been rising the roof on our conversation because at a certain point one of the younger female family members (13), walked into the room and made a comment that sent even the most confident female blushing as we all broke out into seemingly endless bout of laughter.
The point at which the young lady entered our space – I had asked about a word (slang) that a man had used/asked as their prelude to what they deemed a conversation with me a while ago. That word – “Sup?”
I was just asking the other ladies, “What the heck is that supposed to mean?” Are some men so stuck on themselves that they think that’s a way to make us swoon? As far as I was concerned talking to me in slang reminds me of a “pimp-daddy” type looking for a “sugar momma,” of sorts.
Getting back to the point of my short story, the 13-year-old summed up what every grown women in the room was trying to say, but couldn’t say it fast enough – So, according to the little lady, “Sup?” stands for a man who is letting you know from the get-go that he is – “So utterly pathetic!” And, according to the young lady, that’s his way of asking you to decide, up front, whether he’s worth your time.
“Out of the mouths of babes.”
