University of the District of Columbia Partners with MPD to Implement New College Credit Pathway for Police Recruits (674 hits)

The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) announced today that it is partnering with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to implement the Peace DC Omnibus Emergency Amendment Act of 2025 (D.C. Act 26-109). The measure, as passed this summer by the DC Council, allows recruits to earn up to 20 college credits while completing the MPD Training Academy.

By aligning with UDC, prospective officers will now have a clearer path toward fulfilling the requirement of 60 post-secondary credit hours needed to qualify for service.

“The University of the District of Columbia is proud to support the District’s efforts to retain officers,” said UDC President Maurice D. Edington. “This initiative will help MPD attract and retain talent, while reinforcing UDC’s role as the District’s trusted partner in public safety. We remain committed to supporting these vital workforce priorities.”
