Nearly 7,000 expected for Alcorn State University’s 2018 Fall High School Day program (1240 hits)

Alcorn's growing brand and strong reputation are beginning to pay off as thousands of school groups, parents and other interested parties from around the country are expected to flood Alcorn State University's 2018 Fall High School and Community College Transfer Day.

With nearly 7,000 attendees expected to be in attendance, this year's High School Day could again be record setting. Last year, over 5,200 attended the program.

The Office of Admissions and Recruiting hosts the annual event in the Davey L. Whitney HYPER Complex on the Lorman Campus and they report requests are still coming in. The program, which begins at 3 p.m., will include presentations about the admissions process, financial aid, residence life, and various academic departments along with campus tours and much more. Entertainment, a key component of the programming, will showcase the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Marching Band drum line, ASU Cheerleaders, The T.R.E.N.D. Modeling Squad and sorority and fraternity stroll offs.

Interim vice president for Student Affairs Tracy Cook is excited for his first high school day and looks forward to welcoming the students, families, and supporters onto campus.

"We are truly thankful and thrilled about the enthusiastic interest of so many schools, advisors, parents, and students who want to learn more about all the wonderful opportunities and experiences Alcorn has to offer. We look forward to impressing upon these future Alcornites to choose to be brave, choose Alcorn."

In addition to the scheduled program in the Whitney Complex, prospective students will be treated to a SWAC football clash featuring the Alcorn State University Braves and the Texas Southern University Tigers at 6 p.m. at Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium. The game will include a Halftime Show between the two university bands and cap off with a Fifth Quarter Battle of the Bands.

Prior to kickoff, the University will also celebrate and honor the latest class of Alcorn Sports Hall of Fame inductees and recognize the contributions of all those who serve in uniform and help ensure our nation's vitality with the annual Military & First Responder Appreciation Day.

Twelve ROTC cadets will be presented with full scholarships by the Braves Battalion of the U.S. Army ROTC Program at Alcorn. All military personnel, veterans and first responders (law enforcement, fire & EMT/paramedics, etc.) will be admitted to the game for free at all gates with proper identification (D.O.D. ID Card, VA ID Card, badge, etc.). Family members and other guests must purchase a ticket.

To help accommodate High School and Game Day buses, Campus Police is requesting all residential students with vehicles parked at Albert Lott and Hiram Revels residence halls to refrain parking in the rear parking area between 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14 through midnight Saturday, Sept. 15.
