Students Will Have Opportunities to Produce Original Shows & Learn Broadcasting Skills
Bowie State University will launch its new internet radio studio, WBSU Bulldog Radio, on Tuesday, April 24 at 11 a.m., with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony, live DJ and station tours. Hosted by the BSU Department of Communications, the event also recognizes the support of the largest urban radio network, Radio One, for making it possible for students pursuing careers in broadcasting to have hands-on learning experiences.
The event will take place in the lobby of the Martin Luther King Jr. Communication Arts Center. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be led by BSU President Aminta H. Breaux, Dr. Otis Thomas, chair of the Department of Communications, and other distinguished guests, including a representative from Radio One.
Once launched, WBSU Bulldog Radio will be streamed for listeners online from the Department of Communications website and through a mobile app, which will be available for download on Apple iOS and Android devices. The radio station will provide opportunities for students to produce their own shows with original content and learn broadcasting skills.
“We have been anticipating the opening of Bulldog Radio (WBSU) for a while now,” said Dr. Thomas. “It is a dream come true because we have been working diligently to open a first-class, student-operated radio station.”
