Texas College To Host Black History Knowledge Bowl (1114 hits)


The 2018 Black History Knowledge Bowl competition will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 beginning at 8:00 a.m. in the Gus F. Taylor Gymnasium on the Texas College campus. The one-day event will feature middle and high school students in a quiz show-style competition, answering questions that cover nearly 500 years of black history.

This year’s competition is hosted by The Knowledge Bowl Committee, Yesterday’s Tomorrow and Texas College. African-Americans in Times of War is the theme for this 2018’s competition. In addition, there will be a display of African and African-American artifacts, artwork and memorabilia by Yesterday’s Tomorrow. CBS-19 news anchor Tashara Parker and KLTV meteorologist Jessica Faith will be emcees for the event. This event is free for the public to attend.

Texas College and Tyler Together Race Relations Forum (TTRRF) will sponsor a Welcome Reception on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. in the Connector on the Texas College campus. TTRRF will recognize and announce the winners of TTRRF’s annual Black History essay contest.

About The Knowledge Bowl
After a 15-year hiatus the Knowledge Bowl Committee is excited to bring this competition back to the community. The Black History Knowledge Bowl exposes our youth to the plethora of contributions and achievements made by African-Americans throughout history.

About Yesterday’s Tomorrow
Yesterday’s Tomorrow is a mobile museum that exhibits artifacts, artwork and other memorabilia of African and African-American ancestry. Yesterday’s Tomorrow’s was founded to stimulate interest in and increase knowledge and understanding of black history.
