Register for the Virtual Federal HBCU Student Symposium - Feb 27 - Free (2842 hits)


In observance of Black History Month, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's (OPM), Recruitment Policy and Outreach Office (RPO) and the OPM Chapter of Blacks In Government are hosting the Federal HBCU Student Symposium. The Symposium will take place February 27, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. ET.

RPO will offer training for students attending HBCU colleges and universities that are interested in learning about the Federal application process and opportunities available for students and recent graduates.

•9:00 a.m. – 9:30a.m. Welcome- Kamille Smith, Recruitment Policy and Outreach, Outreach, Diversity and Inclusion Keynote Speaker – Joseph Kennedy, Associate Director, Human Resources Solutions


•9:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. – Pathways Programs for Interns and Recent Graduates


•10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. – Writing Your Federal Résumé


•12:00 p.m. -1:00 p.m. – Interviewing Techniques


•1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Questions and Closing Remarks


Description of Briefings:


Pathways Programs – Recruiting and Hiring Students and Recent Graduates into Federal Careers

This presentation introduces the audience to the Pathways Programs (Internships, Recent Graduates and Presidential Management Fellows (PMF)). Information presented covers what each program offers to the job seeker, the basic requirements and employment potential after each program is complete.

Federal Résumé Writing

This workshop is designed to provide participants with a better understanding of how to write an effective Federal resume and give a quick overview of the resume builder on USAJOBS. This session will include a live demonstration of how to formulate a Federal résumé (with limited work experience) using the information In a Job Opportunity Announcement.

Interviewing Techniques

This presentation introduces the audience to the interview process within the Federal government. It explains the types of interviews (structured/unstructured), different delivery methods, types of common questions, responding utilizing the S.T.A.R (Situation/Task, Action, Result) method and how to also prepare for an interview.
