Oakwood University has planned a wide range of activities for the observance of Black History Month under the theme "Remembering the Past, Embracing the Future."
The activities are planned with a strong education component, about the African American experience throughout history. The first program during Chapel on Thursday, February 1, will honor African American Women Leaders: Mahalia Jackson, Phyllis Wheatley, Judith Jamison, and Claudette Colvin.
Led by the Office of the Provost, the Oakwood University Church, the United Student Movement, the Eva B. Dykes Library, and the Department of History & Political Science, have collaborated on a plethora of events ranging from special guest speakers, music and poetry appreciation events, films, and the biannual Festival of Spirituals, scheduled for February 18 at 3:00 p.m., just to name a few.
