ASU Cancer Researcher Receives International Grant to Teach in India! (6678 hits)

One of Alabama State University's acclaimed experts on cancer research and its director of the ASU Cancer Biology Research and Training (CBRT) - Dr. Manoj Mishra - has received a grant to teach a course on Cancer Health Disparity at the Global Initiatives of Academic Network Program (GIAN) in India on Dec. 18-22.

The grant was awarded to ASU's Mishra by GIAN, which is an initiative of the ministry of Human Resource Development of the government of India. GIAN provides a platform where national and international participants get an opportunity to seek knowledge and experience through intensive study of subjects by engaging and inviting international experts in specific fields of study to teach as faculty in India.

“I am proud to be selected to serve as an expert in cancer health disparity,” Mishra said. “Our cancer biology research and training is getting recognized and going global. This is a part of our international collaborative effort between CBRT, ASU and Department of Biotechnology, GGU, India.”

The primary purpose of the course is to promote the understanding of the etiology of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic cancer disparities and to develop improved approaches to reducing and eventually eliminating those disparities. This course will provide basic knowledge of attaining excellence in research focused on the basis of cancer health disparities.

The head of the department of Biotechnology at Guru Ghasidas University-Bilaspur (C.G), India - Dr. Renu Bhatt - said Mishra will serve as a foreign faculty expert and will deliver lectures and seminars on topics related to the course.

“We believe that this course shall give an excellent opportunity to participants from academic institutes and industry to learn about this unique subject,” Bhatt said. “Mishra’s visit also provides an opportunity to initiate future teachings and research collaborations between ASU and Guru Ghasidas University.”
