Super Sunday! (119 hits)

Hello all. I thought that this would be interesting especially to those of you who are hyped about this upcoming weekend. Enjoy......

Super Sunday

By Servant Derek W. Hunter

People all over the world were huddled in front of their television
sets. Everything from hand held models to wide screens. Color monitors
and black and white. If no T.V. could be found they listened on their
radios. Men, women, boys, and girls, they were all tuned in. It was
Super Bowl Sunday, The NFC vs. the AFC.

People gathered in great numbers in homes, bars, restaurants, and yes,
even some churches have become victims to Super Bowl mania. Anticipation
is high as onlookers wait to see this year's million dollar commercials.
Maybe the commercials will give a few moments of relief to those who are
sweating and holding their breath on every play as they watch to see if
their favorite team will win. In the weeks prior to Super Bowl Sunday,
the media tries to arouse our appetite by showing us highlights of
previous Super Bowls. As I watched those Super Bowls of days past, I
found myself reflecting back to another Super Sunday a little over 2000
years ago. Tune in your hearts to station 111 (One for the Father, one
for the Son, and one for the Holy Ghost), as the announcer gives the
play by play on that dramatic Sunday.

Well, it comes down to this. It's fourth and goal at the devil's one
yard line. Time is running out and man is down to his last play. All of
the devil's cheerleaders are standing on their feet led by his head
cheerleader SIN. They've already begun to unpack their championship
t-shirts and hats. The devil's line has dug in. HATE is in the middle.
On each side of HATE are DEATH and DESTRUCTION. DOUBT and JEALOUSY make
up the rest of the devil's front five. DECEIT and LYING are playing the
corners for the devil, with EVIL, FEAR, and IDOLATRY backing up his
line. Playing safety for the devil is none other than TEMPTATION.

To recap what has happened to this point we must go back to the
beginning of time

Man was on his home field at Eden Coliseum. It was first and goal and
God gave the ball of life to man in the form of Adam. SIN jumped up and
shouted when DECEIT and LYING knocked Eve out of the way then flattened
Adam bringing SHAME upon the whole human race. On second and goal, God
gave the ball of life to Moses and the law. Once again Man was flattened
as IDOLATRY and EVIL got into Moses huddle at Mount Sinai causing man to
run around the backfield of the wilderness for 40 years. Third and goal
and time was running out on man. God gave the ball of life to the
prophets of the Old Testament. Again, man was stopped in his tracks.
Joseph was gang tackled by HATE and JEALOUSY as his own brethren threw
him in a pit and left him for dead. DEATH and DESTRUCTION tried to
finish him off, but thanks be to God who sent an officer of pharaoh to
save Joseph from his trouble. Joseph tried to pitch the ball of life to
David, but TEMPTATION in the form of Bathsheeba stopped him.

Man was in deep trouble. He was down to his last play and God called a
time out. One hundred years went by while man waited on a play to be
sent in. Two hundred years went by and still no word from the Heavenly
Press Box. Three hundred years had gone by and man was in a frenzy.
Somebody asked, "Is there any word from the Lord?" Four hundred years
later and it was time to resume play. What was man to do against such a
powerful opponent? The devil's team could smell victory. DOUBT had
slipped into the heart and minds of God's people. FEAR was about to
overcome them. The whole world wondered what God would do. God decided
to make a substitution. Come here Jesus. I need you to go in for man.
I've given him everything and he still messed up. Now I'm giving man
You, Jesus. I want You to carry the ball of eternal life and save man
from his sins. Don't worry Jesus. I'll never leave nor forsake You. I'm
sending You some help to line up against the devil's forces.

Cheering on our side against SIN will be RIGHTEOUSNESS. I'm going to
have LOVE line up opposite HATE. Put LIFE and INCORRUPTION across from
DEATH and DESTRUCTION. Against DOUBT and JEALOUSY, we'll have FAITH and
CONTENTMENT. HONESTY and TRUTH will hold off DECEIT and LYING. I'm going
to let GOOD take on EVIL, and HOPE can handle FEAR. Don't worry about
IDOLATRY either. Elijah coaches my special teams, we'll send fire down
on him. I haven't forgotten about TEMPTATION. He's real cunning. He will
try to attack You in the wilderness. Just put the WORD on him. That will
keep him in check for a while. Alright Jesus, let's defeat the devil and
his followers once and for all. Remember Jesus, I'll be right there with
You.

The coaches made up from the Heavenly Trinity huddled up together and
God called the play. Jesus, I want you to go down through 40 and 2
generations. Give the ball of life to a virgin named Mary. Stay outside
in a manger in Bethlehem. Cut back through the dusty roads of Palestine
for 33 years. Go to Jerusalem and get nailed. Jesus said, "Hold on!"
What kind of play is that? Nevertheless, not My will, but Thy will be
done. Jesus did all that God had asked Him to do. As God watched from
the Heavenly Press Box a voice from heaven said, "This is My beloved
Son, In whom I am well pleased". The devil would not go down without a
fight. He sent BETRAYAL in to help DECEIT in the form of Judas. Jesus
just kept forging on ahead. SIN and all his companions were defeated by
OBEDIENCE. Down went HATE; FEAR and JEALOUSY too. IDOLATRY, EVIL, and
TEMPTATION lay flat on their backs. FEAR and LYING put up a good fight
along with DESTRUCTION. The last enemy to defeat was DEATH. DEATH kept
hanging on to Jesus. "I got you Jesus", DEATH taunted. All Friday night
DEATH kept taunting. All day Saturday and Saturday night too, DEATH held
on to Jesus. But early Sunday morning! DEATH could hold Jesus no longer!
Someone said it was "Super Sunday!" Jesus had crossed the goal line of
eternity. "I was once was dead, but now am alive forever more". Jesus
had gotten up with all power in His hands!

That same power is available to you today. Jesus will give the ball of
eternal life to anyone who confesses a hope in Him. Romans 10:9 says,
"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your
hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead. You will be saved." Confess
Jesus as your Lord and Savior today and you too will cross over into
eternity. May the Lord keep you. May He shine His countenance upon you.
